Katie is a strategic, proactive Colorado attorney experienced in intellectual property and commercial litigation. Katie handles cases in state and federal court dealing with trademarks, trade secrets, copyright, and patents.

Katie also prosecutes trademark registrations, and routinely works with intellectual property attorneys around the world to strengthen her clients' trademark portfolios. She handles trademark oppositions and cancellations. When it comes to trademark enforcement, Katie takes an aggressive and progressive approach, exhausting all available tools for protecting her clients' marks.

Prior to working at Thomas P. Howard LLC, Katie served as in-house counsel to a multi-national corporation supervising trademark licensees and growing and defending its trademark portfolio.

Katie is passionate about her work and is committed to helping her clients build and protect strong intellectual property foundations. Her clients can expect the highest quality legal services from a responsive, budget-conscious lawyer.

Katie prioritizes service to her local and professional community. She serves on the Rodarte Community Center Advisory Board and volunteers at the Weld Food Bank. She provides pro bono legal representation through the Colorado Attorney for the Arts. She is an active member of the Colorado Women's Bar Association, particularly within the professional development committee working to advance women in the legal profession.

Representative Experience:

  • Katie obtained preliminary injunctive relief on behalf of a mountain-town hotel barring defendant's use of her client's trademark.
  • Katie warded off the hostile take-over a 50% interest holder for a large corporation through strategic negotiations and filings.
  • Katie acquired a domain on her client's behalf from a predatory competitor through the Uniform Domain-Name Dispute-Resolution Policy ("UDRP").
  • Katie has taken down thousands of social media pages and posts due to trademark and copyright infringement.
  • For one client, Katie developed a partnership with YouTube to host terabytes of video content, live-stream large events, and remove competitive content that infringes its copyrights.
  • Katie regularly negotiates and drafts IP agreements, including licenses, sponsorship agreements, non-disclosure agreements, non-competition agreements, assignments, master use and synchronization agreements, royalty agreements, joint ownership agreements, employment contracts and contracts for services.
  • Katie successfully vacated an order to quiet title that had been enforced for 6 years due to claimants' failure to provide proper notice to the interested parties.
